Max Verstappen Claims First Spanish Grand Prix Pole Position

Verstappen pips Perez to top spot

Perez to start from 11th after grid drop

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has charged to his first-ever Spanish Grand Prix pole position, comfortably getting the better of teammate Sergio Perez. In contrast, Perez will start from 11th after qualifying in eighth and serving a three-place grid drop.

"Max is the driver to beat," said former F1 mechanic on BBC Radio 5 Live. "He's been on top of his game all weekend, and I expect him to be very difficult to beat tomorrow."

McLaren's Lando Norris came close to denying Verstappen pole position, pipping him by just two hundredths of a second. However, it was not enough to challenge the frontrunner. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz will start from third and Charles Leclerc from fourth, giving Ferrari a strong chance of a podium finish.
