Dan Quayle was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 4, 1947. He graduated from DePauw University and Indiana University School of Law. After serving in the Indiana State Senate, Quayle was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1976. He served in the House for 12 years, rising to the position of Republican Whip.

In 1988, Quayle was chosen by George H. W. Bush as his running mate in the presidential election. Bush and Quayle won the election, and Quayle served as vice president from 1989 to 1993. Quayle was a controversial figure during his time as vice president, and he was often criticized for his gaffes and lack of experience in foreign policy.

After leaving office, Quayle founded the Quayle Institute for American Enterprise at Purdue University. He has also worked as a commentator and author. In recent years, Quayle has largely faded from public view. However, he remains an active member of the Republican Party.
