Gospel Singer Mandisa Dies at 43

Grammy-Winning Artist Known for Her Powerful Voice and Faith

American Idol Alum Remembered for Her Love of Jesus

Mandisa Hundley, the Grammy-winning gospel singer who rose to fame on season five of American Idol, has died. She was 43 years old.

Hundley's representative confirmed her death to K-Love on April 19, 2024. The cause of death has not yet been released.

Hundley was known for her powerful vocals and her passion for sharing her faith. She released several successful albums, including "Overcomer" and "Out of the Dark," and won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2013.

Hundley was also a vocal advocate for mental health awareness. She spoke openly about her own struggles with depression and anxiety, and she used her platform to encourage others to seek help.

"Mandisa was a bright light in the gospel music community," said K-Love chief executive officer Mike Novak. "She loved Jesus and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn. She will be deeply missed."

Hundley is survived by her husband, David, and their two children.
